Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin to travel to London
Bern, 03.09.2019 - Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, the head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and research EAER, will pay a brief visit to London on 5 September where he will meet his new British counterparts. Discussions during this working visit will focus on deepening relations with between Switzerland and the UK.
Shortly before the end July, the new British Prime Minister Boris Johnson presented his cabinet. Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin has an entirely new set of counterparts for his various portfolios, whom he will meet this week. After having signed a trade agreement last February with Liam Fox, then Secretary of State for International Trade, which forms the basis for continued good economic and trade relations between the two partners once the UK leaves the EU, Guy Parmelin will now meet his successor, Elizabeth Truss, who also has the title of President of the Board of Trade. He is also set to meet with Andrea Leadsom, the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and with Conor Burns, Minister of State for Trade Policy. In addition, Mr Parmelin will be attending the traditional International Trade Dinner at the invitation of the Lord Mayor of the City of London.
