Federal Chancellor Viktor Rossi

Viktor Rossi, Federal Chancellor since 1 January 2024.

Federal Chancellor Viktor Rossi, in office since 1 January 2024, is the chief of staff of the Swiss government. He supports the President and the Federal Council in the performance of their government duties. Along with two vice chancellors, he attends the weekly Federal Council meetings. He participates in an advisory capacity and can submit motions.

Born in 1968, Viktor Rossi initially trained as a chef. He went on to earn a teaching degree in business and law from the University of Bern, and later, a master’s degree in politics. He undertook further training in project and process management and in 2015, he obtained a diploma of advanced studies in law.

Before joining the Federal Chancellery, Viktor Rossi served as director of commercial school Bildung Formation Biel-Bienne (BFB) for 11 years. During that time he acted as vice president and secretary of the Canton of Bern’s conference of vocational schools and professional colleges, and also as president of the Canton of Bern’s conference of commercial school directors.

He joined the Federal Chancellery in October 2010 to head the Records Management and Logistics Section. In November 2015 Viktor Rossi became the Federal Chancellor’s delegate for GENOVA, a key ICT project to introduce a standard records and process management system for the Federal Administration. He was appointed vice chancellor in 2019, heading the Federal Council sector. 

Viktor Rossi is married and has two daughters. He is a Swiss-Italian dual citizen.
