Switzerland participating at the Commonwealth Fund International Symposium on Health Care Policy

Bern, 05.11.2009 - The 12th Commonwealth Fund International Symposium on Health Care Policy of the will take place in Washington D.C. from 4th to 6th November 2009. Together with nine other industrial nations, Switzerland will again take part with Thomas Zeltner, Director and Secretary of State for the Federal Office of Public Health, as head of the delegation.

The title of this year's Commonwealth Fund International Symposium on Health Care policy is « Building the Infrastructure for a High Performing Health Care System: What are the Challenges and Priorities? ». From 4th to 6th November 2009, health ministers from the participating countries will focus in Washington D.C. on best practices for ensuring a health care workforce capable of supporting an efficient health care system. Thomas Zeltner will sit together with health ministers from: Australia, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, and the United States. The ministers' meeting will highlight, amongst other topics, on the lack of general practitioners, the needs of the ageing population and the expectations on multidisciplinary health care teams. During the symposium, Thomas Zeltner will be granted the title of Secretary of State.

The Commonwealth Fund is a private foundation that aims to promote a high performing and efficient health care system with better access to health insurance and improved quality. An international health policy programme will be drawn up to encourage an innovative health policy in the United States of America and other industrial nations.
