First meeting of the Joint Committee supervising the implementation of the agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Russian Federation

Bern, 07.02.2019 - First meeting of the Joint Committee took place in Geneva and was chaired by Switzerland.

On 6 February 2019 a first meeting of the Joint Committee, supervising the implementation of the agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Russian Federation on the basic principles for a mechanism of customs administration and monitoring of trade in goods, signed on 9 November 2011, took place in Geneva. The tasks of the Joint Committee, gathering Georgian, Russian and Swiss representatives and chaired by Switzerland are to supervise the implementation of the agreement, clarify the existing open questions, settle potential disputes and deploy specialists where needed.

During the meeting, the neutral private company mandated by the two State Parties - SGS (Société générale de surveillance SA) presented a general overview of the progress of their mandate. Other issues related to the implementation of the agreement were discussed. The unsolved issues will be addressed in a newly established working group.
