Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer at ASEM finance ministers' meeting in Sofia

Bern, 26.04.2018 - Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer is attending the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) of finance ministers in Sofia today, Thursday. He will also open a training centre for the training and continuing professional development of Bulgarian police officers in connection with Switzerland's contribution to the enlarged EU.

Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer is travelling to Sofia today to attend the 13th ASEM finance ministers' meeting. ASEM is a supra-regional informal discussion platform for dialogue and cooperation between Asia and Europe. Switzerland has been a member of this forum since 2012. The ASEM finance ministers' meeting takes place every two years. This year's meeting will focus on economic growth, taxation of the digital economy and fintech-related risks in the financial system, a topic on which Federal Councillor Maurer will give the introductory talk. The focus will be on the security of digital technology in the financial sector, including blockchain, also from the perspective of avoiding risks such as money laundering and terrorist financing. Furthermore, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will open a training centre in the Bulgarian National Police Academy together with the Bulgarian Minister of the Interior, Valentin Radev. The project for the training and continuing professional development of Bulgarian police officers is co-financed with CHF 1.15 million from Switzerland's enlargement contribution. Switzerland's contribution to Bulgaria amounts to CHF 76 million in total.

As Vice President of the Federal Council, Federal Councillor Maurer will also pay a courtesy visit to Bulgaria's President, Rumen Radev.
