Research and development in Switzerland in 2015 - New record for research activities in Switzerland in 2015

Neuchâtel, 29.05.2017 - (FSO) – In 2015, Switzerland spent more than CHF 22 billion on research and development (R&D), i.e. an increase of 10.5% compared with 2015 when the last survey was conducted. These activities were mainly carried out within business enterprises (71%) and higher education institutions (27%) by almost 125,000 persons. In international comparison, the Swiss economy stands out for its concentration of R&D, one of the highest worldwide. These are the main results concerning R&D published by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
