Nominations, retirements and new ambassadors

Bern, 03.03.2017 - A personnel change for the position of head of the Swiss representation in Nepal has been planned. It will coincide with the usual transfers for early 2018 in line with the decision taken by the Federal Council. The nomination will take effect as soon as the authorities of the host country have given their approval. The Federal Council would like to extend its warmest thanks to Ambassador Jörg Frieden for his service as he enters retirement.

Elisabeth von Capeller Oswald, currently head of Cooperation with Eastern Europe and assistant director (with the title of ambassador) of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Bern, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. She will succeed Ambassador Jörg Frieden in early 2018.

Thomas Schneider, currently deputy head of the International Relations Service of the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM), has been appointed head of the International Relations Service and assistant director of OFCOM at the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications from 1 April 2017. The Federal Council has accorded Mr Schneider the title of ambassador in the exercise of his new function.
