Federal Councillor Leuenberger to open the European Energy Congress in Essen

Bern, 15.02.2008 - Federal Councillor Moritz Leuenberger will open the 2nd Annual European Energy Congress in Essen on Monday, February 18, 2008, with a speech about the unique features of Switzerland’s energy and climate policies. The congress on the topic of “Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency” with high-ranking speakers from politics and the economy is aimed at the Boards of Europe’s leading energy and water companies. It is the prelude to the E-world energy and water trade fair at which, from February 19 to 21, 2008, Switzerland will be present as the partner country with a large joint-industry stand.

The 2nd Annual European Energy Congress takes place as a premium congress one day prior to the E-world. In addition to Federal Councillor Leuenberger, the high-ranking speakers include Matthias Ruete, Director of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy and Transport, Fatih Birol, Chief Economist of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Lars Josefsson, CEO Vattenfall AB, and Iain Conn, Member of the Board of the BP Group.

The E-world energy & water will be opened officially on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at 11 a.m., with a press conference and a tour of the trade fair by Christa Thoben, Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia, and Christian Wanner, Financial Director of the Canton of Solothurn.
