Social assistance recipients in Switzerland in 2022 - 2022: Social assistance rate fell to 2.9%

Neuchâtel, 18.12.2023 - In 2022, 256 800 persons in Switzerland received social assistance in the form of a financial benefit on at least one occasion. In comparison with the previous year, this represented a decline of 0.2 percentage points in the social assistance rate. Since social assistance statistics were introduced in 2005, the social assistance rate only reached this level in 2008. This decline was accompanied by a further decline in the number of newly-opened social welfare cases and a simultaneous increase in the number of closed social welfare cases. These are some of the findings of the Swiss Social Assistance Statistics from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

This press release and further information on the topic can be found on the FSO website (see link below).
