Environment sector more dynamic than the economy

Neuchâtel, 18.12.2017 - (FSO) – The value added of the environmental market rose by 30% between 2008 and 2016. It increased from CHF 16.3 to 21.3 billion, i.e. from 2.7% to 3.2% of the gross domestic product (GDP). In 2016, the environmental sector accounted for 150,200 full-time equivalent jobs (110,700 in 2008), i.e. 3.8% of total employment (3% in 2008). Its dynamism results in particular from activities linked to energy saving measures in building construction and to the production of renewable energy. These first estimates come from the environmental accounting compiled by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
