Bern, 23.02.2017 - Mauro Dell’Ambrogio, State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation received the Israeli Minister of Science, Technology and Space, Ofir Akunis, on 22 February 2017 for a work visit.

During their meeting, State Secretary Mauro Dell’Ambrogio and Minister Ofir Akunis discussed the research and innovation systems of both countries. Both underscored the excellence of bilateral relations in the area of science.

Switzerland considers Israel an important partner in the area of research cooperation, which primarily takes place through EU research framework programmes in the form of direct contact between researchers and via competitive awarding of research funding. Cooperation covers a wide range of research fields and is particularly prevalent in natural sciences, medicine, information and communication technologies and security. The two countries also work together on research endeavours in important multilateral research institutions such as the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) or the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF, Grenoble), of which both Switzerland and Israel are members.
