Switzerland condemns Gaza executions
Bern, 31.05.2016 - The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) condemns the execution of three individuals by the de facto authorities in Gaza. These are the first executions to have taken place since the national unity government was formed in June 2014. In recent months the FDFA has made repeated representations to the relevant authorities in order to prevent the reinstatement of such practices.
Switzerland reiterates its firm opposition to the imposition of the death penalty and calls on the de facto authorities in Gaza to declare a moratorium on the use of the death penalty as already exists in the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory. It also calls on the de facto authorities in Gaza to suspend any further imminent executions.
