Didier Burkhalter to attend ministerial meeting in Paris on Friday on peace in the Middle East

Bern, 31.05.2016 - Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter, the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, will take part in a ministerial meeting on Friday to relaunch the Middle East peace process. This 'initiative for peace in the Middle East', introduced by France, aims to relaunch the efforts for a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians based on a negotiated two-state solution.

The goal of this ministerial meeting is to organise an international conference by the end of the year with the participation of Israeli and Palestinian delegations. Mr Burkhalter will underscore the efforts made by Switzerland to restore democratic and inclusive Palestinian governance to help facilitate the peace talks.

After the ministerial meeting, Mr Burkhalter will also meet with the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault.
