New ambassadors of Switzerland

Bern, 04.05.2016 - A number of staff changes have been announced for several Swiss representations abroad and at the head office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 2016. The changes will take place as part of the usual transfer rotation and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council. The appointments of heads of mission become effective following approval by the respective host states. Furthermore, the Federal Council has conferred the status of ambassador on members of staff at the Federal Department of Home Affairs, Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, and the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces.

Didier Chassot, currently deputy head of mission in Ankara, will become the new head of mission to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, the Republic of Suriname and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, based in Caracas.

Urs Schnider, currently deputy head of mission in Doha, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Dominican Republic, Antigua and Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, and St Kitts and Nevis, based in Santo Domingo.

Rolf Stalder, currently deputy head of mission at Switzerland's Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the international organisations in Vienna and chargé d'affaires for the International Atomic Energy Agency and Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty in Vienna will become Switzerland's permanent resident representative (with the title of ambassador) to the International Atomic Energy Agency and to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty in Vienna. He holds this office in addition to his current position as deputy head of mission.

Caroline Kuyper LeBlond is the head of Resources and International Affairs and deputy director of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) in the Federal Department of Home Affairs in  Neuchâtel. To allow her to carry out her new function, the Federal Council has conferred on her the title of ambassador.

Bruno H. Moor is the head of International Cooperation in Research and Innovation at the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) at the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) in Bern. To allow him to carry out his new function, the Federal Council has conferred on him the title of ambassador.

Nicolas Lang, currently ambassador and commissioner for the organisation of the 32nd International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva will have the title of ambassador conferred on him in his new function as ambassador-at-large for the application of international humanitarian law and to the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations Office and to the other international organisations in Geneva.

Thomas Gürber, currently deputy head of the Middle East and North Africa Division within the Directorate of Political Affairs in Bern has been appointed director of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF). To allow him to carry out his new function, the Federal Council has conferred on him the title of ambassador.
