Swiss-Russian relations: Didier Burkhalter and Sergey Lavrov to meet on Monday in Moscow

Bern, 07.04.2016 - The head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter, will visit Moscow on Monday for a working visit during which he will hold talks with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov. The talks will include bilateral relations between Switzerland and Russia and will give the two ministers the opportunity to exchange views on a number of major current international issues.

Among the main topics to be covered will be the dual protection mandate that Switzerland fulfils for Russia and Georgia, developments in Ukraine and the war in Syria. Russia and Switzerland enjoy good relations which are developing positively in the political, economic, scientific and cultural domains.

The last official working visit at ministerial level dates back to 12 April 2013 when Mr Lavrov and Mr Burkhalter met in Neuchâtel. They have also met since then on the margins of international conferences, the last time in New York at the UN General Assembly on 30 September 2015.
