New Swiss consul-general in Dubai

Bern, 22.09.2015 - Christian Watts has been appointed the new Swiss consul general in Dubai. In his new position he will also head the Swiss Business Hub of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Christian Watts succeeds Raymund Furrer as consul general and will take up his post on 1 October 2015.

Christian Watts was born in Winterthur in 1965. After studying in Bern, Cairo and Geneva, he joined the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) in 1995. He worked for six years in International Affairs at the Federal Office of Civil Aviation before switching to the private sector, where he was initially vice director of the Network division at Swisscargo Airlines and then vice director for external relations and alliances at Swiss International Airlines.  In November 2004 he became a member of the executive management team at Switzerland Global Enterprise (formerly Osec), where he headed the Network and Communications division until the end of 2007. He then became Regional Director for India, the Middle East and Africa with profit responsibility for trade and investment promotion, and remained in this position until mid-2012. Since August 2012 he has been Regional Director AAA (America, Africa and Arabia) at the Switzerland Global Enterprise headquarters. Mr Watts is married and has a daughter.
