EBRD Annual Meeting to focus on its future strategic orientation

Bern, 11.05.2015 - Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, Swiss Governor at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will attend the EBRD Annual Meeting on 13 and 14 May 2015 in Tbilisi. The focus of the meeting will be the bank's strategic orientation for the next five years. Numerous bilateral talks will also be held on the fringes of the meeting.

Switzerland will call for clear strategic and thematic priorities to be set for the EBRD for the next five years. Switzerland is particularly keen for the bank to focus its attention on its core areas, support for regional market development, and SMEs in recipient countries. Strong and varied local markets form the basis for a stable global economy. Switzerland also supports the vision of an efficient bank that measures and evaluates the effectiveness of its activities.

On the fringes of the meeting, the Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research will meet with Georgia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili. The topics for discussion include bilateral economic relations and the introduction of a bilateral investment treaty. Bilateral meetings will also be held with representatives of various EBRD member countries.

Despite the adverse economic and geopolitical environment, the EBRD pursued its involvement in 2014 and will present a strong result for the year.
