Producer and Import Price Index in February 2015 – Sharp decline in prices, year-on-year inflation drops to -3.6%

Neuchâtel, 16.03.2015 - (FSO) - As a result of the continued decline in prices for petroleum and petroleum products, as well as the high Swiss franc, the Producer and Import Price Index calculated by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) showed a decline of 1.4% in February 2015 compared with the previous month. The index now stands at 94.2 points (base December 2010 = 100). The producer price index for domestically produced goods fell by 0.7% and import prices by 3.0%. Lower prices were registered in particular for petroleum and petroleum products, natural gas, paper and paper products, pharmaceutical products, plastic products as well as metals and metal products. Compared with February 2014, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products fell by 3.6%.
