Land use in Switzerland 1985-2009: evaluations and analyses – Changes to the landscape reflect an evolving economy and society

Neuchâtel, 09.03.2015 - (FSO) - Within 24 years, the per-capita and per-job settlement area has increased by an average of 6.5%. However, there are considerable regional differences. Residential areas alone increased by 44%, twice as quickly as the population. At 2.2 m2 per second, cultivated land loss in the plain region is twice the national average. These are some of the results from the in-depth analyses of the Land Use Statistics, conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) as a contribution to the International Year of Soils.
