Producer and Import Price Index in January 2015 – Falling index due to lower prices for petroleum and petroleum products

Neuchâtel, 13.02.2015 - (FSO) - The Producer and Import Price Index calculated by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) fell by 0.6% in January 2015 compared with the previous month, reaching 95.5 points (base December 2010 = 100). As in the previous month, this decline is due in particular to lower prices for petroleum and petroleum products. While the producer price index for domestically produced goods decreased by 0.1%, import prices showed a decline of 1.7%. The removal of the Euro exchange rate cap did not affect the January index as these prices were collected in the first week of the month. The price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products dropped by 2.7% year on year.
