Finding the best brains for Switzerland
Bern, 09.11.2012 - Switzerland has to compete globally for the best minds. It needs to promote it-self abroad as an attractive location for education, research and innovation. The annual meeting of the swissnex science consulates address the issue of brain circulation.
About half of the lecturers at Swiss universities are foreign nationals. This makes Switzerland one of the world's leading centres for international education. The Federal Council is keen to continue its policy of promoting international exchange and importing talent in accordance with its international strategy for education, research and innovation. Science diplomacy supports these efforts in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa in particular.
Federal Councillor Alain Berset recognises that Swiss universities have an interest in the global exchange of young talent and top researchers. The swissnex science consulates play an important role in this. These centres are important in presenting Switzerland as a location for expertise and know-how. They also enable leading minds to network. Furthermore, they give highly skilled Swiss in and around Boston, San Francisco, Singapore, Shanghai and Bangalore the opportunity to remain in touch with their home country.
At this year's swissnexDay on 12 November, Federal Research Minister Alain Berset will be speaking on the topic of brain circulation. Other speakers include State Secretary Mauro Dell'Ambrogio, Prof. Martin Tauber, Vice Chancellor of the University of Bern, Dr. Rudolf Minsch of economiesuissse, Prof. Michael Pepper of the University of Pretoria and University of Geneva, Prof. Martin Vetterli, of EPF Lausanne, Prof. Stefan Wolter of the Swiss Coordination Centre for Research in Education and Pascal Marmier, director of swissnex China in Shanghai.
SwissnexDay'12 provides a platform for sharing views and experiences on the challenges of talent circulation. Swissnex is a network of hubs in the world's most innovative regions. In cooperation with the Swiss Embassy Offices of Science and Technology, Switzerland, swissnex is active in drawing attention to Switzerland as a leading location for education, research, art and innovation.
