The visit took place against the background of Belgium's presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2024. The aim of the meeting was to exchange views on Belgium's priorities and positions with regard to finance and taxation, and to present Switzerland's views. The meeting also provided an opportunity to deepen bilateral economic and financial relations with Belgium.

Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter and Minister of Finance Vincent Van Peteghem discussed the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, and the associated measures in Switzerland and the EU.
