Primary care doctors: half as many doctors per inhabitant in rural areas as in towns

Neuchâtel, 24.11.2023 - At the end of 2021, 9184 primary care doctors were working in Switzerland. The working week of doctors in rural areas was on average 8% longer (in hours) than that of doctors in towns. There was one primary care doctor per 1000 inhabitants in urban centres and 0.4 per 1000 inhabitants in rural areas. These are some of the results from a new publication from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
