New composition of ComCom from 2024

Bern, 24.11.2023 - At its meeting on 22 November, the Federal Council appointed Christian Martin, vice president of the Federal Communications Commission (ComCom), as the new president from 2024. The current president, Adrienne Corboud Fumagalli, is standing down after completing the maximum term of office. The Federal Council also appointed Stephanie Teufel as the new vice president and Christine Benesch as a new member of the Commission.

After completing the maximum 12-year term of office, the current ComCom president, Dr Adrienne Corboud Fumagalli, is standing down from the Commission at the end of the year. ComCom thanks Dr Corboud Fumagalli for her many years of devoted service in the field of telecommunications regulation.

The Federal Council has appointed the current vice president as the new president with effect from 1 January 2024. Christian Martin has a degree in electrical engineering and worked for many years at Cisco Switzerland, ultimately as general manager. Most recently he was managing director of Alps (Switzerland and Austria) at Google Cloud and is the owner of Martin Engineering AG, which develops software for the digital management of dental practices. Mr Martin has outstanding knowledge of both technological developments and the economic context of the telecom industry.

In addition, the Federal Council has named Professor Stephanie Teufel, who has been a member of ComCom since 2017, as the new vice president. With a doctorate in computer science and as professor emeritus for information and communication technology management at the University of Fribourg, Professor Teufel has wide-ranging and in-depth knowledge of the sector.

The Federal Council has also elected Dr Christine Benesch as a new member of the Commission from 1 January 2024. Dr Benesch is an economist and holds a doctorate in media economics. She was an assistant professor at the University of St Gallen and currently teaches behavioural economics and economic policy at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration (HWZ). Dr Benesch’s main occupation is at frentix GmbH, a company that develops e-learning and e-recruiting software.
