By 2022, almost half of all nursing homes were privately owned

Neuchâtel, 10.11.2023 - The trend towards privatisation in the nursing home sector continues: in 2022, almost half of all nursing homes were privately owned (47.3%), compared with 45.6% in 2021. The same trend was seen in home care services, where the sharp rise in the volume of services has been accompanied by the emergence of for-profit companies. Between 2021 and 2022, the number of for-profit companies increased significantly more (+8.6%) than the number of not-for-profit companies (+0.2%). These indicators for nursing home and home care services are published by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office.
