Chief of the US National Guard Bureau visits Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces
Bern, 17.10.2023 - Lieutenant General Thomas Süssli, Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces, will meet for a working visit with General Daniel R. Hokanson, Chief of the US National Guard Bureau, on 18 and 19 October. The talks will focus in particular on possibilities for enhancing training cooperation and on their different military service models. The two military chiefs will also attend the Axalp 2023 air display by the Swiss Air Force.
During the two-day working visit, Lt Gen Süssli and Gen Hokanson will discuss possibilities for developing specific bilateral cooperation in the area of training. Up to now there have been no such joint activities of significance with the US National Guard. An agreement on training cooperation between Switzerland and the US has been in place since May 2020. Lt Gen Süssli and Gen Hokanson will also discuss the military service models of the Swiss Armed Forces and the US National Guard. Developing international cooperation will strengthen the defence capability of the Armed Forces and thus enhance the security of Switzerland.
During his visit to Switzerland, Gen Hokanson will also attend the Axalp 2023 air show, which is usually performed each year by the Swiss Air Force. There he will have an opportunity to exchange views with representatives of the Swiss Armed Forces leadership.
