Increase in drink driving and decline in drug dealing

Neuchâtel, 16.10.2023 - In 2022, with 103 156 convictions, the number of entries in the criminal records rose by 3% compared with the previous year. While convictions under the Road Traffic Act rose by 6%, those under the Narcotics Act fell (–13%). In all, 1 945 expulsions were pronounced. Since 2007, the (suspended) financial penalty has been the most frequently imposed sentence (69% of all convictions). This situation has not changed since short custodial sentences in their entirety were reintroduced in 2018. These are some of the findings of the adult conviction statistics produced by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
