Swiss labour market: major differences between nationalities

Neuchâtel, 22.08.2023 - The situation of the 1.12 million foreign workers in Switzerland differs depending on their country of origin. People from certain EU countries have high employment rates of 85% or more; others have rates of under 60% (Russia, Eritrea and Turkey). Employed persons from the United States and the United Kingdom tend to be highly qualified and in managerial positions, while those from Sri Lanka and Eritrea are often employed in elementary positions. This is also reflected in different working conditions. These are some of the results from the “Foreign labour force in Switzerland” publication (available in German and French only) from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
