Human rights consultations between Switzerland and Russia

Berne, 12.12.2006 - 

Switzerland and Russia held human rights consultations in Bern on 11 and 12  December 2006. The agenda of the meeting focused on compliance with human rights in Switzerland and in Russia. Multilateral cooperation on human rights in the Council of Europe, the OSCE and the UN was also covered. In addition the two delegations discussed in detail specific aspects of minority rights, freedom of the press and civil society.  

Switzerland and Russia have been holding yearly or twice-yearly human rights consultations since 2003. One purpose of these meetings is to work out common positions in international human rights bodies. The consultations also provide an opportunity to raise sensitive human rights issues.
