Ignazio Cassis and Maroš Šefčovič to meet on 18 July in Brussels

Bern, 17.07.2023 - Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, head of the FDFA, will travel to Brussels on 18 July for a meeting with Maroš Šefčovič, the European Commission's vice-president for interinstitutional relations and foresight. The meeting will be an opportunity to review relations with the European Union (EU).

The visit forms part of the regular exchanges between Mr Cassis and Mr Šefčovič to steer the ongoing discussions between Switzerland and the EU at the political level. Mr Cassis and Mr Šefčovič previously met on 15 March in Bern.

The meeting on 18 July will provide an opportunity to review the progress of discussions between Switzerland and the EU in light of the Federal Council's decisions of 21 June 2023. Another objective will be to guide the next stages of the exploratory discussions at the technical and diplomatic level.

Exploratory discussions between Switzerland and the EU will continue on the basis of the parameters of a potential negotiating mandate.  The Federal Council will review the situation again before the end of the year.
