New Swiss environment ambassador

Bern, 28.06.2023 - Felix Wertli is Switzerland's new Ambassador for the Environment. The Federal Council conferred the title of Ambassador on him on 28 June 2023. He will replace Franz Perrez as head of the International Affairs Division at the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). The Federal Council appointed Mr Perrez as the new head of the Directorate of International Law at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in February.

Mr Wertli will take over as head of the FOEN International Affairs Division on 1 July 2023. The Federal Council conferred the title of Ambassador on Mr Wertli on 28 June 2023. In this capacity, Mr Wertli will represent Switzerland's international environmental policy abroad and will lead Swiss delegations at international environmental negotiations.

After completing his studies in geography and an advanced studies programme in development cooperation, Felix Wertli began his career in Burkina Faso, Kenya and Haiti as a programme officer for Fastenaktion, an international social justice organisation. From 2012 he was a councillor at the Swiss Permanent Mission to the WTO and EFTA in Geneva, where he worked on trade and development issues. In 2016, he took over as head of the Global Affairs Section in the FOEN's International Affairs Division. Mr Wertli is 46 and lives in Lausanne.
