Vital Statistics 2022: Contrasting trends in births, deaths, marriages and divorces in 2022

Neuchâtel, 22.06.2023 - 2022 was characterised by a rise in deaths and a fall in live births. Natural growth, i.e., the difference between births and deaths, was even lower than that recorded in 2020, a year marked by the pandemic. In addition, the number of marriages increased. This increase was not only due to same-sex couples now being able to marry, but also to a generally greater tendency to unite. The number of divorces fell. These are some of the annual definitive findings of the Vital Statistics for 2022 from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
