Almost CHF 25 billion dedicated to research in Switzerland in 2021

Neuchâtel, 25.05.2023 - Switzerland dedicated CHF 24.6 billion to R&D in 2021. This represents an average annual increase of 4% compared with 2019, the year of the last survey. These activities were mainly carried out within higher education institutions (28%) and private enterprises (68%) by almost 140 000 persons. In international comparison, Switzerland remains one of the most research-intensive economies. These are the main results of the Federal Statistical Office’s (FSO) statistics on "research and development in Switzerland".
