Switzerland joins efforts aimed at securing global supply and value chains
Bern, 09.05.2023 - Switzerland wants to help make global supply and value chains more secure and so strengthen their resilience. It is adding its name to a joint statement supported by 28 states and associations of states, including the EU, the USA and Germany. The move is in line with the Federal Council's foreign economic strategy.
The resilience of global supply and value chains has been affected by pandemics, wars, natural disasters and other events. In adopting the Joint Statement on Cooperation on Global Supply Chains, Switzerland wants to help make these chains more resilient. Ensuring security of supply with essential goods is also a key element of this cooperation.
At the Supply Chain Ministerial Forum in July 2022, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States took the decision to work together to address such crisis situations. Since then, a number of further countries have joined the original signatories: Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Estonia, Norway, Panama, Serbia, Uruguay, Israel, and now Switzerland.
Based on the Joint Statement, the signatories will work together to alleviate short-term disruptions and bottlenecks in transport and logistics, as well as address the long-term challenges of supply and value chain resilience in line with regulatory frameworks and the participants' international commitments.
