749 same-sex marriages, 2234 conversions of registered partnerships into marriages, 1171 gender changes

Neuchâtel, 20.03.2023 - Marriage for all, and the possibility to make gender changes in the civil registry, came into force during the year 2022. Between 1 July and 31 December, 749 same-sex couples tied the knot and 2234 couples converted their registered partnership into a marriage. Between 1 January and 31 December 2022, 1171 gender changes were registered at Swiss civil registry offices. These are the initial provisional results from the civil registers published by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) for the year 2022.
