Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter visits Sweden's Minister for Finance, Elisabeth Svantesson

Bern, 02.02.2023 - During her first trip abroad as finance minister, Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter visited her Swedish counterpart, Elisabeth Svantesson, in Stockholm on 2 February 2023. Current financial and tax topics were discussed in connection with Sweden's presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The visit took place within the context of Sweden's presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2023. The aim of the meeting was to exchange views on Sweden's priorities and plans for work in the Council. It also provided an opportunity to deepen bilateral and multilateral economic and financial relations.

In particular, Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter and Minister for Finance Elisabeth Svantesson discussed the war in Ukraine and the associated measures in Switzerland and the EU. The EU banking package, the future market access rules for third countries and the implementation of the OECD's planned minimum taxation rules for large internationally active companies were also addressed.

"For my first trip abroad as Head of the Federal Department of Finance, a visit in the context of the EU presidency was a priority. I had the opportunity to reiterate Switzerland's position on the various legislative projects under way in the European Union", pointed out Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter. "As an important Scandinavian player in various multilateral forums, Sweden is a Swiss ally. We both advocate open economic exchange within a framework of rules that prevent arbitrariness and ensure a level playing field."

Sweden is Switzerland's most important Nordic trading partner, with a trade volume of around CHF 3 billion for goods and CHF 2 billion for services.
