Number of new vehicle registrations in 2022 almost 8% lower than previous year

Neuchâtel, 31.01.2023 - With a total of 322 387 newly registered motor vehicles, in Switzerland the automotive year 2022 fell 7.8% behind 2021 in terms of new registrations. When compared with the pre-Covid year 2019, the decline was 21.2%. The war in Ukraine, which exacerbated pandemic-related bottlenecks in the supply chain, also contributed to this decline. In the passenger car segment, all-electric cars again increased their share of new registrations compared with the previous year (to 17.7%). The total vehicle stock in 2022 was just under 6.4 million. These findings are from the Federal Statistical Office's (FSO) newly published Road Motor Vehicle Statistics.
