Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer to meet Saudi Arabian and Qatari finance ministers
Bern, 25.11.2022 - On 27 November 2022, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will meet Saudi Arabia's Minister of Finance, Mohammed Al-Jadaan, in Riyadh and on 28 November, he will meet the Qatari Minister of Finance, Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, in Doha for talks on current bilateral and international topics. The focus will be on strengthening financial and economic relations with the two key Gulf region countries for Switzerland in terms of financial policy.
The trip to Saudi Arabia has been planned for some time as part of the regular financial dialogue between Switzerland and Saudi Arabia which was established in 2019. The finance ministers will sign a declaration of intent to underline Switzerland's and Saudi Arabia's wish to continue the exchange on financial matters. In addition, they will discuss bilateral topics and address outstanding questions with regard to the double taxation agreement. They will also discuss multilateral topics such as the tax reform by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Saudi Arabia's candidacy as a future organiser of an International Monetary Fund annual meeting.
In Qatar, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer and his Qatari counterpart will revisit financial matters first discussed at their March 2022 meeting in Doha and during the first financial dialogue between Switzerland and Qatar in Zurich in September 2022. Among other things, they will discuss digitalisation and sustainability in the financial sector, as well as the positions of both countries in multilateral organisations such as the IMF and OECD.
To round off his visits, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will take the opportunity to attend the FIFA World Cup qualifier between Switzerland and Brazil, at the invitation of FIFA and the Swiss Football Association.
