Swiss museums: once again more than 10 million admissions in 2021 – 40% of staff volunteers

Neuchâtel, 08.11.2022 - Swiss museums came back to life in 2021 after the major waves of COVID-19, but without reaching pre-pandemic levels. Almost all indicators of museum activity in Switzerland increased compared with the previous year: the number of events rose by 77%, the number of guided tours by 44% and the number of admissions by 26%. Included for the first time in the survey, figures on museum staff reveal the importance of volunteers, who were used by almost two-thirds of museums. These are some of the latest findings from the Swiss Museum Statistics from the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
