«Cyber Startup Challenge 2022»: Startup ONEKEY convinces the DDPS
Bern, 26.10.2022 - The DDPS Cyber-Defence Campus has launched a challenge to foster relevant startups and innovative technologies in the cyber area. In this third issue of the Cyber Startup Challenge, the startup company ONEKEY was able to convince the jury of its innovative solution in the area of automated security of Internet of Things devices. In 2023, the company will be able to implement its solution in a proof of concept tailored for the Armed Forces and thus demonstrate it in a real environment.
The German startup ONEKEY wins the Cyber Startup Challenge 2022 organised by armasuisse Science and Technology. The company convinced the jury and was able to present its innovative technology for securing Internet of Things (IoT) devices at the Cyber-Defence (CYD) Campus Conference on 26 October 2022.
ONEKEY has developed a technology to automatically detect security vulnerabilities. Using the «Software Bill of Materials (SBOM)» and automatically generated «Digital Twins», ONEKEY analyses the firmware for critical security vulnerabilities and compliance violations. On the one hand, the SBOM provides a detailed overview of all components of a software. On the other hand, a «Digital Twin» is a virtual representation of a system and enables its investigation in a laboratory, without the source code, the network or physical access to the equipment.
Identifying vulnerabilities in attacks and security risks
Vulnerabilities for attacks and security risks are identified using the «Digital Twins» and can thus be selectively isolated or eliminated. The solution can be integrated in the software development and procurement processes and thus enables manufacturers, distributors and users of IoT technologies to check security and compliance efficiently and automatically both before implementation as well as throughout the entire product life cycle. Leading international companies already benefit from this platform - universities and research institutions can use the ONEKEY platform free of charge for study purposes.
Supporting startups and innovative technologies
The Cyber Startup Challenge was held this year for the third time. In June 2022, the Cyber-Defence Campus launched the call for innovative solutions in the area of «Network detection and security of IoT devices». 36 startups responded to the call and presented their solutions to the jury, which consisted of cyber experts of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS).
For this purpose, the focus was on detecting all connected devices in a network and evaluating and improving the security of IoT devices such as routers or firewalls. The goal of the challenge was therefore to explore the startup technology landscape in the field of automatic network detection and security of IoT devices in order to be able to integrate innovative technologies into the Swiss Armed Forces.
