New Swiss ambassadors

Bern, 30.09.2022 - Personnel changes will take place in 2023 at several Swiss representations and at the head office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) as part of the periodic transfer rotation and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council. Each appointment of a head of mission abroad takes effect through the host state's approval

Appointments

Corinne Cicéron Bühler, currently the director (with the title of Ambassador) of the FDFA Directorate of International Law in Bern, has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with residence in The Hague.

Denis Knobel, currently head of mission to the Holy See, has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Portugal, with residence in Lisbon.

Arthur Mattli, currently head of mission in Bucharest, has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain, with residence in Abu Dhabi.

Florence Tinguely Mattli, currently head of mission in Copenhagen, has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the State of Qatar, with residence in Doha.

Siri Walt, currently head (with the title of Ambassador) of the Africa Division of the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern, has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and to the Republic of Maldives, with residence in Colombo.

Claude Wild, currently head of mission in Kyiv, has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the Council of Europe, with residence in Strasbourg.

Conferment of ambassadorial titles

Serge Bavaud, currently deputy head of the Crisis Management Centre of the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern, has been conferred the title of ambassador for his new function as head of the Crisis Management Centre at the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern.

Nathalie Chuard, currently head of mission in Dhaka, has been conferred the title of ambassador for her new function as the director of the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance, with residence in Geneva.

Anna Ifkovits Horner, currently head (with the title of Ambassador) of the Eurasia Division of the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern, has been conferred the title of ambassador for her new function as the head of the Host Country Division of the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations and the other international organisations in Geneva.

Sandra Lendenmann Winterberg, currently head of Sectoral Affairs in the Europe Division of the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern, has been conferred the title of ambassador for her new function as assistant director general and head of Division I (human rights, international humanitarian law, diplomatic and consular law) of the Directorate of International Law in Bern.

Simon Pidoux, currently political adviser in the Eurasia Division of the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern, has been conferred the title of ambassador for his new function as head of the Presidential Affairs, Unit of the Communications and Strategy Sector at the Federal Chancellery in Bern.

Julien Thöni, currently consul general in Istanbul, has been conferred the title of ambassador for his new function as deputy head of mission, head of the Multilateral Affairs Division, Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the Conference on Disarmament and Deputy Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations and the other international organisations in Geneva.
