New Stories from everyday digital life

Biel/Bienne, 27.10.2022 - In their adventures, the fictional Webster family encourages the population to act with caution in the networked world. On 27 October 2022, twelve new stories have been published in comic form. The "Stories from everyday digital life" are available free of charge in brochure form and at www.websters.swiss in all four national languages and in English.

The Webster family of six is at the centre of numerous unpleasant situations and dangers in everyday digital life - ones that we all might encounter. Their adventures are part of a prevention campaign by various federal agencies and the Swiss Crime Prevention organisation designed to raise awareness among the Swiss population about the everyday challenges in the digital world. The comic stories in the new series address topics such as roaming, investments in cryptocurrencies, conspiracy theories on the web, online challenges and mobile phone addiction.

Comics as a resource for schools and at home

The comic stories can be used in school lessons or privately. They encourage young people to discuss issues relating to everyday life in the digital world, and offer practical advice. The stories have been compiled in a joint venture between the Federal Office of Communications OFCOM, the Federal Social Insurance Office FSIO (Youth and Media), Swiss Crime Prevention and the National Cyber Security Centre NCSC. The comics are published as a print brochure and in digital form; they are available in the four national languages and in English. The stories are accessible at www.websters.swiss and are also published on Instagram. OFCOM worked with the Swiss illustrator Matthias Leutwyler for the visuals.

International distribution

Since 2015, OFCOM and its partners have regularly published new stories about the Webster family, thousands of which are distributed in Swiss schools. The comics are also a success further afield: the first two editions have been translated into several other languages, including Romanian in 2022, and they are currently used in prevention work in Romania.

Free ordering of the brochure

The comics in German, French, Italian, Romansh and English can be ordered free of charge as of 9 November 2022 from the Federal Office for Buildings and Logistics (FOBL) for use in schools, for display at suitable locations or for private use (see link at the bottom of the page).
