Vocational education and training is the focus of the visit by the director general of Israel’s Ministry of Education
Bern, 08.09.2022 - A working meeting between the director general of Israel’s Ministry of Education, Dalit Stauber, and State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation Martina Hirayama took place on 7 September. The talks focused on vocational education and training in Switzerland.
At the working meeting, both sides welcomed the good relations in the field of education, research and innovation, and exchanged views in particular on vocational education and training. The discussion focused among other things on task sharing between public and private sector stakeholders and on ensuring the appeal of vocational education and training among young people. The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss current challenges such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on vocational education and training.
The meeting with Director General Stauber and her delegation took place on the fringe of this year’s Swiss Skills competition in Bern from 7 to 11 September. These national championships enable Switzerland to showcase the diversity of its vocational education and training to a national and international audience.
Israel has been an important partner for Switzerland in the field of education, research and innovation for many years. Scientific cooperation between Swiss and Israeli researchers is significant and is based largely on the EU Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation. Under Horizon 2020 (2014–2020), nearly 260 research projects involving researchers from Switzerland and Israel were supported by Switzerland with around CHF 213 million.
Since 2011, the Swiss National Science Foundation has funded around 400 projects involving cooperation with Israeli researchers. In addition, SERI supports the participation of Swiss universities in international science networks and joint education activities with partner institutions in Israel.
