11 000 abortions in 2021 in Switzerland - rate remains constant compared with 2020
Neuchâtel, 06.07.2022 - Despite slight variations, the pregnancy termination rate in Switzerland in 2021 was similar to that of 2020. In 2021, it was 6.7 per 1000 women while in 2020 it was 6.8. In international comparison, Switzerland's pregnancy termination rate is low, even though abortions have been on the increase again since 2017. Similar pregnancy termination rates to those in 2020 and 2021 were last seen between 2010 and 2012. These are the findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
