Decrease in Confederation research and development expenditure in 2021

Neuchâtel, 27.06.2022 - In 2021, the Confederation spent CHF 2.2 billion undertaking or in support of research and development activities. Compared with 2019, the last year observed, this represents a decrease of CHF 413 million (-16%). Non-adhesion to the "Horizon Europe" EU research and innovation framework programme is the main reason for this. These findings are based on the processing of administrative data by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
