COVID-19 pandemic is also affecting people’s well-being

Neuchâtel, 22.12.2021 - The COVID-19 pandemic has left its mark on the Swiss population’s well-being, having an impact on many areas of life. The life expectancy of men, for example, has fallen by almost a year. In 2020, the real per capita gross domestic product was 3.1% lower than in the previous year and the national debt of the Confederation, cantons and communes grew in 2020, passing the CHF 300 billion mark. Until now, general satisfaction with life has declined only slightly. These are some of the findings from the Federal Statistical Office’s (FSO) indicator system for the measurement of well-being.
