Celebration of presidential election postponed
Bern, 30.11.2021 - In view of the current health situation, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis has decided, in agreement with the cantonal authorities of Ticino, to postpone the celebrations for the planned election as President of the Confederation. The celebrations should have taken place in Ticino on December 16.
On December 8, the Federal Assembly will proceed as usual to elect the President of the Confederation for the upcoming year. As current Vice-President, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis will be proposed to assume this function. In light of the uncertainties linked to the epidemiological situation, it has been decided - in agreement with the Ticino cantonal authorities - to postpone the celebrations planned for December 16, 2021 in Ticino to summer 2022. The Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) thanks all those involved in the organization of the event.
