Digitalisation gains ground in agriculture

Neuchâtel, 23.11.2021 - Over a third of all farms use digital technologies. The most popular device is the mobile phone used by 28% of all farms, whereas use of drones (2%) and digital networking is still in its infancy. More than 60% of farms in Switzerland have diversified their activities. The main type of diversification is direct marketing, e.g. through a farm shop; in the past ten years these have more than doubled in number. Two-thirds of women farmers working exclusively on the farm have their own old-age insurance account. These are some of the findings of the agricultural farm census 2020, produced by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
