Decrease in the number of inpatient stays in 2020

Neuchâtel, 19.11.2021 - In 2020, the number of people receiving inpatient care in Swiss hospitals and birthing centres fell for the first time since 2011, with a decline of 5.8% compared with the previous year. The share of hospital stays with a COVID-19 diagnosis in acute care was 2.9%, in terms of the number of days of care this share accounted for 4.2%. In intensive care, COVID-19 was associated with a fatal outcome in one in four cases. These are some of the results available in the latest Hospital Statistics from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
