Reduction of administrative fees for mobile communications

Bern, 17.11.2021 - From 1 January 2022, the annual fees for the administration of the frequency spectrum will decrease for mobile operators. The Federal Council amended the Ordinance on Fees in the Telecommunications Sector (FeeO-TCA) on 17 November accordingly.

Mobile network operators need frequencies in order to offer their mobile services. They pay OFCOM annual fees for the administration and technical supervision of these resources. As Salt, Sunrise UPC and Swisscom have acquired large bandwidths in recent years, the annual administration fees have risen sharply. In contrast, OFCOM's expenditure on the administration and technical supervision of mobile terrestrial radio communication has remained more or less stable.

The Federal Council has therefore decided to introduce a degressive tariff in line with the allocated frequency bandwidths. This reduction will ease the administrative fees for mobile network operators by about one million Swiss francs per year.

The amended ordinance, adopted by the Federal Council, will enter into force on 1 January 2022.
